Cypher is not just a mathematical term but describes a get-together (circle) of MC’s, DJ’s, dancers and other members of Hip Hop culture to exchange ideas, share knowledge and present skills without necessarily having to battle. For dance that means old-school and new-school Street dancers, Poppers, Lockers, B-Boys and B-Girls come together for a freestyle dance jam and present what they’ve got.
When someone goes in and does a run, they are sharing their knowledge of the dance, knowledge of the music, knowledge of their body, everything they have, everything they've learned and they share it with everyone in the cypher. And, throughout unique sets of circumstances and experiences, we all have different styles, different moves and different types of knowledge that we can contribute to the cypher. This knowledge is shared and everyone benefits... you can make friends in the cyphers, meet other dancers, vibe, network and share tips. It’s all about getting down, having fun and most of all being fresh while sharing your knowledge!
Keeping that it mind, Cypher Sapiens offer a 50min unique performance of contemporary Hip Hop dance in an engaging narrative of culture and creative discovery. The concept is the evolution of three characters - Australia’s Number 1 B-Boy Lamaroc and Funkstylists Andre and Enigma - from Homo sapiens to Cypher sapiens throughout the history of planet earth. Combining elements of theatre, multimedia and dance the characters of Cypher Sapiens come to life spanning 30 years of Funk and Hip Hop, travelling on a musical journey to the past and future.
